It was quite active at the Reserve this morning. A decent amount of waterfowl were flying around. The feeders were active. I had one WT Sparrow and a bunch of Towhees along with the other usual suspects. After walking around the east loop trail, I heard some chatter from chickadees. The last few times I have heard it in different locations, I haven't been able to spot what the bids were angry about. This time, I saw what the raucous was about, and it was a Pygmy Owl. It posed nicely for about a minute before flying to another area. Best views I have had of one since I was up in the Peace. If I recall correctly I think it was around minus 30 so much better viewing conditions. Northern Pygmy-Owl at Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Had one YR Warbler and an RC Kinglet. Also saw a Bald Eagle with a Rabbit in its talons. A lot of waterfowl were in the main pond in particular Ring-necked Ducks. Estimated around 95. Seems like a lot around. Good numbers at Cheam as well. In the afternoon I did some biking and saw my first Shrike of the fall.

Beautiful photo, Chris! One of the nicer ones I've seen this year.
We were there this afternoon and in with what has grown to be almost 180 Ring-necked Ducks was a Redhead.

Coincidentally, 180 Ring-necked Ducks and a Redhead is the name of my new choral indie band.
