I have been busy with items related to My knee surgery as I have reached the end of the monitored recovery (everything good) but have been out walking. I just wanted to share some high species numbers I encountered.
On the 11th I walked around Harrison lagoon. While digging out my gear I heard some raucous birds, I didn't have the bins out but saw 7 large terns flying. By the time I got the bins out they were too high and too far away for someone not familiar with terns to identify and put it down as a missed opportunity. An hour later I was talking to another birder and he said there was a couple of Caspian Tern seen earlier. On cue two terns flew over the lagoon, joined quickly by 3 more in a raucous meeting. Lots of time to identify them as Caspian terns.
On the 12th between my wife's and my appointments I did a drive by at the Hope airport, there were so many sparrows I decided to come back later. When I returned there were less birds but I found 2 Vesper sparrows in the Canna Farms parking lot (west end of the airport) and 5 on the side road of the airport (NE end), even got all 5 in one photo with 1 WCSP. I believe there were more but they were feeding on the marge of the pavement and on the runway and could not be seen until they flew and then everything flew at once. There was 1 White-throated Sparrow in the mix.
