I encountered a nice-sized and assorted flock of birds at Island 22 today. Black-throated Grey and Yellow-rumped Warbler were the most abundant. I was surprised no Ruby-crowned Kinglets. There was a nice assortment of flycatchers. Pewee, Pacific-slope and Hammond's Flycatcher were represented. I also got good looks at a Dusky Flycatcher. This was at the west end of the park. I've only seen them three or four times in the fall.
Yesterday, at Harrison Lake in the afternoon over heavy seas from a strong wind, were four Common Tern. At one point all four suddenly dove into the water. They must have seen (somehow) a school of small fish? I've never seen them do this away from the ocean. In the lagoon was an early Bufflehead female and a Cinnamon Teal.
This evening I had a chance spotting of a Common Nighthawk that appeared to land on a flat roof at the top of a four or so storey apartment building. This might be the latest I've seen them.
There's been a lot of Swainson's Thrush flying over the last couple nights. Going outside it doesn't take long to hear them calling as they pass.
