August 2024 Monthly Challenge

Fall migration increases throughout the month of August. Shorebirds will continue to make their way through our region. Harrison Lake and even the turf farms in Sumas Prairie can offer a great opportunity to see them. The migration of songbirds will increase as the month progresses. Great Blue Heron Reserve and Island 22 are reliable locations to see migrating songbirds.

As I have moved, and my new strata does not allow feeding birds, the only birds I see now are Anna's Hummingbirds. I have also put up a terra-cotta saucer with water for a birdbath. No birds have discovered it yet, not even for a drink! But then, I have a cooler northern exposure with not many trees around, so I don't believe that it is a fear of the strata that is keeping them hidden, just not as many flying bye to notice the bath.
