I was out biking tonight and when I was going across Fairfield Island Park, I heard Purple Martins above me. I stopped and saw two males.
Last year I had a few above Bell Rd slough which is fairly close to Fairfield Island Park. I don't think the ones from Kilby would go all that way to feed.
Evening Grosbeaks are still around but the numbers seem to be smaller.

I was wondering if others had also noticed that Evening Grosbeaks numbers are dropping. Seems they're moving off to nest.
There may be some martins nesting in the area. I should reach out to someone who had contacted me for martin nest advice as he and his son were building boxes and wanted to get martins nesting on their farm. Be great to hear that they've had success!

We ventured out today in search of Purple Martin's. We found none at Eagle point but Starlings had somehow figured out how to utilize their nest box. At Kilby there were no less than 18 Martin's perched on the wires and periodically flying out to grab a bug. We also witnessed a flock of 30 or so Vaux's Swift's working over the adjacent fields. Some flying quite low and offering some great views.
