Cheam Wetlands June 9

Yesterday, Randy and I did a morning walk at Cheam Wetlands. We tallied 45 species. One downside, is the mosquitoes are out and were quite bad on the creek trail. A lot of swallows flying above the lake but no Bank. There was a lone male Ring-necked Duck. They have nested here in previous years.

A lot of waxwings were present and a few briefly posed.

We were out to Cheam Wetlands today and the Redstart is still singing loudly. With patience we got some decent views. The Eastern Kingbird was out on the island just off the floating bridge viewpoint. Lots of wind today so not many mosquitoes.

Nice to hear it's still hanging out there. So far it's been a good spring for Redstarts.

I've seen a young one near Browne Creek Wetlands. I was lucky he was feeding down low AND that I picked the right open area he might pass though.
