I had a good week around Hope. There is not a lot of shorebird habitat/feeding stopover spots around Hope, but I felt there must be shorebirds going through. This week on Laidlaw Rd I found new ground created by the pipeline construction, there is a good area of ponding in one of the corn fields that has a grass cover crop on it. They spray cow waste on these fields, which is good for insect growth. I had a Greater Yellowlegs show up and stay for 3 days, next a Snipe and then Sandpipers, mostly Least but a few Western. With only a 1/4 of the pond visible I counted 30 sandpiper. And a question: Is there a species category in ebird similar to Sandpiper sp. ? At Hope Track I had Vesper Sparrow, Wilson's Snipe and Killdeer, a couple of which posed for me. And Kawkawa Lake, there were 20+ Common Loon and around 100 Bufflehead. Today there were still 5 Common Loon, 135 Bufflehead, Barrows Goldeneye, Common Merganser (all female) and 25 Bonaparte's Gull. and a Canada Goose that did not want to be disturbed. good stuff! I like shorebirds.
peep sp. can be used on eBird for the smaller sandpipers.

Jon is correct and you can also use "shorebird sp." for a broader ID.
