I went to Harrison yesterday and walked around the beach pond. It was foggy with heavy fog banks blowing through. I could not identify anything on the lake, just small views of the rafts of ducks on the lake. The usual birds on the pond, hard to see at times but some Redhead and Canvasback came very close to me. Went up to Sasquatch Harrison, on the way up you could see rafts of ducks on the lake but on the way back down you could see none. Not a lot of birds but was surprised to find a Surf Scoter off the boat launch. The fog was lighter but I still had a hard time getting a good photo. Surf Scoter Sasquatch Harrison by Kenneth Davis, on Flickr I then went to the Banford Rd area. There were two Harrier and a Kestrel hunting the fields. There were a lot of Wigeon with eagles hunting them. At Gibson and McGuire there was a successful eagle feeding on a duck. Bald Eagle with duck by Kenneth Davis, on Flickr I stopped by Cheam, that was very quiet, could not find even a chickadee. There were a few Bufflehead and Common Merganser at the far west end of the lake. If we get that atmospheric river the ice will probably go out. Ken in Hope

The Surf Scoter is a nice one. Very few January records in the region I would assume.
