I haven't been to the Wetlands in a long time. I am planning to go as much as I can starting in May. I do have a couple of questions. First, how bad are the car thieves there. If you don't have anything in view are okay? I am asking that because I have heard that there's quite a few cars that get broken into. Second, the only bird checklist I could find on the web is an old one. Is there a new one available?

Hi bundy8717, 1. Car thieves do work there, as any park parking lot. I have been to the wetlands probably 100 times, and did have my window smashed once when I left a box of Timbits on the passenger seat. He/she smashed the window, took the box (spilling most of them on the floor of the vehicle) and that was it. It cost me a new window and some clean up, but next time I will know that Timbits are hot items. I would say that if you have no valuables in the vehicle, you are safe. 1 out of 100 would allow me to say that you have a 99% chance that your vehicle will not be broken into. Without Timbits your % may even be higher . 2. Gord has worked hard on printing a new checklist for 2008. They are available at the wooden shelter at the end of the parking lot. I also have multiple printed copies, and if you would like one...my house in Chilliwack may be a way to get one. Send a "personal message" to me, and we can arrange meeting, talking birds, and getting you a checklist. You can print your own at www.fvrd.bc.ca/Services/parks_home/exploreourparks/Documents/Bird%20Checklist%202008.pdf as well. Dave

Thankfs for the info Dave. As long as I put things away from my car it sounds like I'll be safe. I can't believe someone would actually smash a car window for timbits.
Thanks for the list. There's a few birds that I have never seen before that are quite common there beginning in May. Just by looking at the old list compared to the new one there are a large number of new species that have been identified there. Hopefully, the weather starts to improve so I can get out there. This rain sucks.
