Has anyone, other than me noticed the lack of Chestnutbacked Chickadees? I haven't seen one since last spring. Normally I have more Chestnutbacks than Black Caps. I know with the new yard things are a bit out of whack but I haven't seen any, anywhere. There are lots of Chickadees at Eagle Point, but always Black Caps. Kathy

Hi Kathy: They are at my feeder, and at the Hope Airport at this end. Cheers, Thor

Saw about 6, last week by the art gallery in Harrison. It is usually chestnutbacks or gold crowned kinglets out here. At home in Agassiz, we rarely see chestnutbacks, black caps = year round.

Nice picture, Sandy!
I have a couple of Chestnut-backed Chickadees who are hanging around the yard at Cheam Wetlands. I also have noticed plenty when doing some hiking in the local mountains these past few months. This cooler air may change things in the valley a bit.

Thanks! there seems to be no shortage of the black-capped chickadees around the feeder...Hopefully the chestnut-backed come back more often.

There seems to be plenty of Chestnut-backed out here in S.E. Langley. Although, the Black-capped are more plentiful - I'd say 1/3 Chestnut-backed to 2/3 Black-capped in my yard.
