Headed for GBHNR in the late morning today, about a kilometer from the destination there was something on the road. I stopped in the roadway and viewed it with the bins, it appeared to be the remains of a bird, with feathers moving in the wind. Then it started moving and arranging itself, and moved on its legs and wings to the side of the road. After it moved out of sight I drove by and saw it was just sitting off the edge of the road. I turned the truck around and parked where I could watch it, looked alert but did not move any farther. Hawk Injury by Kenneth Davis, on Flickr I walked down the road to see what it was going to do when I got closer and assess damage. The wing did not fold and the leg was not straight and appeared to have blood on it. I was only about 15 feet from it so I decided to try to catch it. I retrieved a blanket to try and swaddle it, but when I got back to where I was it folded its wing, then flew to the top of a fence and then flew into a large hedge row and disappeared. I hope it survives. Damaged Hawk by Kenneth Davis, on Flickr Is this a Coopers or Sharp-shinned Hawk, I didn't try to do an ID at the time. I was so close the size and shape have me confused.

Good of you to try, Ken. Hope it does recover ok. Good plan with the blanket. Though small those talons are incredibly sharp and don't let go!
