When I parked, I checked the temperature reading on my vehicle and it was one degree! Wasn't too active through the forest but did get a few Varied Thrush, GC Kinglets, CB Chickadees, and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. The WB Nuthatch and a Three-toed Woodpecker were highlights in the forested area. As I got out of the forested area it wasn't active at all with birds. Had one Townsend's Solitaire and two Sooty Grouse.
Passed the junction to Flatiron I had a small flock of Mountain Chickadees. Checked out the small lake and had a quick snack but only had a few Pipits. Climbed up to the tower and saw a Golden Eagle flyover head. It was relatively close, and I got some great views. A few minutes later, I had three White-tailed Ptarmigan. Didn't explore too much of the summit near the tower because a guy who camped overnight told me he saw a mother Black Bear with two cubs west of the summit.
Had a quick lunch just east of the tower. Lucked out and saw three Rosy Finches. Haven't got good views of the species since 2014.
Coming down it was very quiet but had a weird sighting, a Canada Goose! It was east of the lake and likely got blown off course at some point. Seemed fine.

Nice report, Chris! What I like about hiking up there is you never know what might fly by! Any hike with ptarmigan is a successful hike in my books!
