Hello Birders
There was a female Cassin's Finch present in our yard in the early afternoon. Maybe this should go under RBA? I am not sure how many records there are for the area but I don't think there are many. I have had a small flock in the yard before; 5 or 6 years ago. That same year there was a flock of about 45 birds further up Ryder Lake. I wonder how often they occur?

Jason, I think this would count as a rarity for this section for seeing one in Chilliwack. For the ones at Manning, that's hard to say given finches' tendency to fluctuate in population size and to wander in their range. We need to keep an eye on this to see if what's at Manning is normal our an influx. Given you have one in Chilliwack (the last sightings I know of are from 2001 too) makes me think it might be just a good year for them and perhaps Manning does not get those numbers usually either.
Great sighting!

Excellent sighting, Jason. I would definitely vote it in as an RBA for Chilliwack! Certainly would be a new record for Chilliwack for me (next to the Pygmy-Owl would be even better....)
Thanks for sharing,
Dave

Just for the records....we had Cassin's Finch over here in Harrison Mills, in late January of 2001. I have them marked down for the 26th , 27, 28, & 29th of that month. Then again, off and on, through out the month of Feb. that year.
