Randy and I did some birding in Manning today. The target was Spruce Grouse. As we were going up to Strawberry Flats, we were discussing grouse and as we turned a corner a male Spruce Grouse was on the side of the road. It was just outside the Fraser Valley checklist area. Randy got a nice photo Spruce Grouse at Gibson Passage Ski Hill Access, Okanagan-Similkameen CA-BC 49.06575, -120.83297Walked a portion of the road past the Strawberry Flats parking lot and the trail, but no more grouse. Did get kinglets, YR Warblers, and two Hammond's Flycatchers. They were quite yellow. At the parking lot, we heard a woodpecker and it took a few minutes before we finally got a visual, AT Woodpecker. Next, we drove up to Alpine Meadows. On the way up we had another male Spruce Grouse and a Sooty Grouse. The Heather Trail wasn't too active with birds. I thought there would be a few more migrants. It was nice to get a Sharp-shinned Hawk though. Enjoyable day with great weather.

Great day for sure Chris! Here's the trip report: ebird.org/canada/tripreport/157972Only 24 species but a fantastic day nonetheless with some species I very infrequently see. And spruce grouse was a lifer for me!
