Our final base of operations for the trip was the town of Sierra Vista, before driving back to Phoenix for our flight home. A short stop at a pullout, next to the main highway that leads to SV, produced our first and only Chihuahuan meadowlarks of the trip. This species was a lifer for Larry, and used to be considered a subspecies of the Eastern meadowlark. We also had a pair of Grasshopper sparrows as well: Grasshopper sparrow by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Ramsey Canyon Preserve had a great variety of species. Though we could hear an Elegant trogon calling somewhere in the forest, we were unable to get a visual on it. We still had fantastic looks at other birds, however. Are the Grasshopper Sparrows a different population than what shows up in BC?

I would imagine so, yes. Given how far south these birds live.
