After Green Valley, we made our way down to Patagonia Lake State Park. Our accommodation consisted of a rustic little cabin by the lake, right next to the park's main birding trail. Despite the oppressive heat, we managed to tally 50 species along this trail during our first morning here. Though we tried for a recently-reported Rufous-capped warbler, we came empty on that front. Probably the biggest highlight here was some Thick-billed kingbirds: Thick-billed kingbird by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Earlier in the trip, we saw what we thought was this species, but later discovered we had actually seen a Loggerhead shrike. At the Paton Center for Hummingbirds, hummers weren't the only frequent visitors to the feeders: Gila woodpecker by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Stay tuned for Part 3!
