My wife and I are visiting friends in McLure so I thought I would do a quick report. We haven't had a lot of time dedicated to birding but in our campsite in Pine Grove we have had pretty good views of at least 3 merlins. They are incredibly vocal!
We also went a little way up Lac du Bois road, where we caught some of the smoke from the fire south of Kamloops. I guess between smoke and heat there's a good reason there aren't many ebird checklists for July in this area. Not many birds to be seen except vesper sparrows, if the little lakes are dried up. There were still plenty of wildflowers and pollinators though. And the bigger lakes still had ducks. Nice to see ruddies and baby scaups. Anyone been there who has an area in the park they like to focus on? I try to avoid road birding when I can but there is a lot of ground to cover in the Lac du Bois general area.
