While attending a field trip for school at Silverdale Wetlands in Mission this afternoon I happened to notice 8 dark things flying in the sky. I noted their necks seemed long, but they were definitely not geese or cranes as they were too small. I determined they were White-faced Ibis. They were heading east, I think following the river. They were in a tight group, occasionally gliding. It was an interesting and definitely unexpected sighting. Also here was 1 Sora calling in the wetlands.

I have a feeling they likely came out of a marshy field just to the west of Silverdale. Nice emergent grass in shallow water that I would have liked to check closer when I drove by a few times in late May. Was able to see a few Cinnamon and Blue-winged Teal among other ducks in there but sadly no where to stop to check better. I just checked maps and perhaps a view can be had from Silverdale Avenue for future visits.
