The Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission is a birdy place. We found a male Calliope Hummingbird today near the Clarke Theater during a quick walk. _0238466 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr Lots of bird activity in there. Saw my first MacGillvray's Warbler of the spring, many Warbling Vireos and Wilson's Warbler that must have come in last night. Also our first Pacific-slope Flycatchers. Two California Scrub-Jays were over by Stave Lake St. A Myrtle Warbler male _0238482 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr It occurred to us that BC's largest and smallest bird have both been seen from this location within a couple days!

I appreciate you sharing about this park, I have been meaning to visit it and never seem to get to it. I saw and heard many Wilsons Warblers, and right beside the parking lot a California Scrub Jay was perched in a tree and calling out. I did not hear any Warbling Vireos at all and yet I had many a few days ago at Silverdale Wetlands Parks. My Merlin App picked up the Pacific Slope Flycatcher once but I did not see it or recognize its call amidst all the rest of the dawn chorus. With Merlin I want a repeating signal and to have to hear it myself if I cannot get my eyes on it. Merlin also twitched the Calliope Hummingbird a couple times but I could not see or hear it and there were so many Rufous Hummingbirds around, I really wanted to see it as I have only seen one once before on the side of a mountain near Hedley. Visually birding is getting more challenging and I feel more comfortable with a photo ID to be sure what I saw was what I saw.

Nick, that's the right way to use Merlin. Sorry to hear it's getting a bit of a challenge but you're doing great

Indeed Nick, there are times when I can't hear a bird but Merlin lets Me take a second and third search to get a visual.
