Sad to share that Jack passed away earlier this month. Many of us enjoyed his hospitality over the years to visit his organic farm and to see what birds are kicking around. Which was usually many different ones given he used no pesticides. I'll certainly miss him; it was always nice to have a quick hello to talk fish, gardening and birds.

Thank you, Gord, for letting us know. I was at the Hope Airport a couple days ago and I thought about him. I looked over the fields at his place and it did not feel right. I spoke with him a number of times over the years and waved even more as I was birding and he drove by. One time he picked some fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from his garden to give me after I had visited him in his yard. Truly a generous and nice man. Airport will not be the same with him gone.

Thanks Gord, I saw the yard gate was closed a while ago and was concerned for exactly that.
I loved his story of waiting for his wife to go out so he could cut a hole in the garage door so the Swallows could get to their nest.

We are so sorry to hear this. The airport will never be the same. Jack and Betty were amazing people, we will miss them both now.

The Barn Swallows in his garage was always a special story how he accommodated them.
In addition to the tomatoes and cucumbers, he had the most amazing onion. It was some hybrid that likely only exists on his farm.
