John Vooys and I spent afew hours looking for the Prairie Falcon in Delta. We found it on a 2nd try in the afternoon near the mansion/88th. We enjoyed a little altercation between Peregrine/Praire Falcon and Harrier. Also a group of 9 American tree Sparrows East of 72nd on the dike(life bird for me)! An interesting struggle was observed between Shrike and BC Chickadee. The shrike kept pursuing the Chickadee through and around a pine tree on the golf course. The tree was an island and the chickadee was reluctant to leave the safety of the tree. Finally the pursuit was so frantic and the chickadee was exhausted and found itself on the ground outside the safety of the tree. The Shrike was on it in a second!

Hi Ed, that Shrike/Chickadee episode reminds me of a similar story [and outcome] that I observed in Ladner one winter a few years back. That might help explain the reason for such large Chickadee broods. It's hard to watch but all part of the "Grand scheme"
