We had a nice walk at Cheam Lake in the crisp cool air. There were lots of birds about and we enjoyed standing on the viewing platform watching the geese and swans coming in to the lake. It's been a good fall for Ruddy Duck and we counted seven. There were two Norhern Harrier and we watched one eating some species of waterfowl. Not sure if it made the kill or was scavenging a deceased bird. Overhead, we spotted a young Golden Eagle soaring with a Red-tailed Hawk.

The wind did not seem too bad so we decided to go to Harrison Lagoon next. It was quite windy here. But I've seen it worse. Out on the lake over by the marinas we spotted a Long-tailed Duck. Jamie then found a second nearby. A lifer for Benny. On the lagoon, we found a few Canvasback and a male Redhead. We studied the scaups as the lagoon is a reliable place to see Greater and Lesser together. Greater is easily the least common for the Fraser Valley.
Sleeping is easiest as they're not changing their head shape as they might when going about their daily activities. Left to right we have Lesser, Greater, Ruddy Duck, Lesser and Greater

American Wigeon and Coots often feed with each other but it's not always friendly. The wigeon like to wait for the coots to dive and bring up plant matter which then they try to steal.

Over to the Blue Heron Reserve yesterday we encountered six Yellow-rumped Warblers which is a bit more than expected for the date. There were a lot of waterfowl on the main lagoon which was mostly Mallard and American Wigeon.

A bit of catch up
East Sector Park on the 9th along McPherson Road were two Townsend's Warbler. Might have been ones Ken saw as well? It's been an interesting November for late warblers as I've seen Wilson's and Black-throated Grey as well. Perhaps not surprisingly, I would see two Turkey Vultures as well that day.

On Tuyteens Road this male Northern Harrier was scavenging on a dead heron. He assures us all that he took the big bird down on his own in an epic hunt, but despite our nods and smiles, we know he didn't.
