Some visiting family members prompted a trip to Vancouver to see some of the typical western birds. We tallied 70 species in about 6 hours of birding, mainly around the Ferry Jetty and Iona. Golden-crowned Sparrows outnumbered White-crowned in the old subdivision area by Boundary Bay Sooty Fox Sparrows were well represented as well TFJetty had all 3 scoters this time - first time that I saw Black Scoter at this location, usually only Surf and White-winged. Okay, a better picture. Note female Surf and female Black in background. I couldn't resist. Good numbers of Canvasback at Iona Outer pond. Basically the entire range of North American ducks were represented! Including Eurasion Wigeon - may have a little American nationality as well. Snow Geese still hanging around. Beautiful day to be out and about, Dave P.S. Anxious to here how Thor's trip turned out. Did you combine it with a shot at the Ross' Gull?

Nice report!
I hope Thor found something good...I was a good boy and only looked at Mew Gulls today but looks like a Ivory Gull was found which, arguably is more mega than a Black-backed or Iceland Gull!!
