Just outside of the checklist area. My parents and I started off at the top of Alpine Meadows Road and then the trail goes north. We did not do the whole trail, just around 7km in, and then the same route back. There were two areas that had a decent elevation climb, one was just after the Buckhorn Wildnerness camp and the other was coming back just before the parking lot but other than that, the trail is fairly level which makes it relatively easy. On the drive up to the meadows, we saw four Sooty Grouse. The first part of the hike had 3 more Sooty Grouse. This one was in a well-shaded area Sooty Grouse at Manning Park--Heather Trail This one was seen later on in the hike and I am thinking it's a Dusky? Any comments are most welcome Dusky/Sooty Grouse at Manning Park--Heather Trail Saw four Spruce Grouse on the hike.
