Will lump a couple reports in here. Today, in the rain, I joined a group of enthusiastic people, including Jason and Benny, for a little birding walk around the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. We managed to tally 38 species and enjoyed some good looks at a good-sized flock of swallows and Vaux's Swifts down low, a family of Wood Duck and a Common Merganser hen flying into a nest cavity about 100 feet up in a Cottonwood. The less-than-expected find for the morning was a Dusky Flycatcher. A first for me at the park. Another walk, that is organized by the City of Chilliwack, happens this Friday starting at 6:00. Yesterday was a birdy day. In the morning Benny and I found a Mourning Dove on Evans Road. A new one for Benny. That evening when I went out to start the BBQ I heard a House Wren singing away. Went to fetch Benny and while enjoying his second lifer of the day a flycatcher showed up. Wound up being a Dusky Flycatcher for a hattrick of lifers for him. If only one of my Leafs could have done a hattrick yesterday. It was active in our yard that evening as we also saw a couple late juncos, Orange-crowned and Wilson's Warbler and also a Warbling Vireo. _0221906 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr _0221905 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr _0221889 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr _0221886 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr
