From the eBird anniversary post I ended up going to the vermont portal, and found the following article: ebird.org/vt/news/a-new-tool-for-exploring-vermont-birding-hotspotsBasically it highlights somebody's effort to create a "hotspot guide" of every hotspot in certain areas. Similar to how Gord and others wrote up Site Guides on the fraser valley birding site. But... the thing is that these are all non-standard pockets of information. I feel like it would make sense for eBird to expand their Hotspot feature, and allow additional details to be added for them -- instead of just having a Name, Location, Sightings, and Photos. And it would allow for more that just a handful of people to manage the locations. I guess the trouble lies in that the data is not very well structured. But surely it can't be that hard for them to set that up. I wonder if they are working on something like that right now or if it needs to be suggested Thanks for taking a trip with me and my random thoughts

That would be awesome if every country, state/province, and county had a hotspot guide. Sure hope eBird expands this concept.

From the eBird anniversary post I ended up going to the vermont portal, and found the following article: h Thanks for taking a trip with me and my random thoughts We visited Newfoundland recently and whenever we were travelling and spotted an interesting habitat we would stop and record any bird we found on ebird. I got an email from the local coordinator and he asked if I would change all my sightings to be hotspots. Some of those sightings may have been only a duck in a ditch but I did as he asked. I could never figure out why he requested that.

That's interesting, Len!
I suppose that on the one hand, others would likely submit a checklist for that area, and then you end up with a growing number of local spots, but on the other hand, a roadside ditch is probably not much of a destination in itself 😂.

Yes, we had a hotspot close to where we were staying. We thought we would check it out and found a small pond close to busy highway with nowhere to park. Couldn't figure out why they put a hotspot there.
