I have seen more Cinnamon Teals this year than ever. I don’t know if I just wasn’t paying attention, or if I was just not in the right place at the right time.
Today I saw a pair at Tuyttens (a lifer for my daughter!) a male at Cheam Wetlands (I was only there very briefly, so there may have been more) and then a pair in the same spot on Chilliwack Central as where the Dowitchers and the Solitary were seen.
Is this normal for out here?

Welcome to the forum! I'm probably not the best person to talk about trends, but I think it's just a matter of being on the lookout for them. I've seen Cinnamon Teal on 13 different occasions - at 7 different locations. Many of these spots I'd never seen one before, but I also didn't do nearly as much birding in prior years. Hence I think it's because I'm looking in more places (and more often) that I see them more now Spring is the best time for them, and Cheam lake the most reliable spot that I'm aware of. I had 6 there in one visit this year.

Thanks for the welcome! I joined back in the fall, but there had not been any recent posts, so I didn’t make it a habit to check. Now I see there are lots of recent posts, likely because of all the great spring birds that have been coming through. I think you’re right that it has to do with just being out looking more. I made a goal to do a checklist every day this year, just to keep more consistent, and I guess it’s paying off with noticing things like this I also bird in MV, and I noticed the same thing with more teals on Sunday. Teals of all kinds! Three Cinnamon pairs, two Green Winged pairs, and one Blue Winged pair all in the same small area. First time I’ve ever seen all three in one spot.

On Tuyttens rd. we see a few Cinnamon and Blue winged during higher water in the spring and early summer, and more green winged in the fall and winter with the lower water.

Re: post frequency; it just depends on if people are birding or have time to make a post. Spring helps. Good birds help.
Post frequency is quite low in general though. But maybe you can help bring that up 😉🙂

But maybe you can help bring that up 😉🙂 I have friend in MV who asked me to join the discord group out there because he wanted more “chatty” people, and he figured I fit the bill with how much I messaged him about birds I’d seen. At that point, I didn’t know birding forums were even a thing. I only started with eBird and keeping lists in 2019, so I’m still pretty new.
