For Mother's Day, we decided to go to Hope again. The first stop was Kawkawa Lake. Highlights included three White-winged Scoters, one Western Grebe, two Ruddy Ducks, Vesper Sparrow, and one Red-necked Grebe. A scope was needed to see most of the waterfowl. A great place to check out during migration. Thacker was fairly active as well with the FOY Tanager and Pacific Slope Flycatcher. I was surprised by the number of Rough-winged Swallows. Hope Airport had 7 Vesper Sparrows, Townsend's Solitaire, and surprisingly four Western Meadowlarks. Seems late for them. My mom wanted to go to Hillkeep in the afternoon. It was fairly quiet but we were rewarded with great views of a Barred Owl. Thanks for the report Chris. I was there later and missed some of what you saw but did have a Lark Sparrow along the rocks beside Silver Hope Creek by the sewage ponds.
