At first I thought it was a Lincoln"s Sparrow but then there was the chest spot but then I realized that was not so much a spot as just feather that were pushed away. What type of sparrow? by Nick, on Flickr

To me it looks like a Song Sparrow; a Lincoln's would have finer streaking on the breast. As well as overall looking cleaner and more 'complete'.

I immediately saw some gray on the cheek and thought Lincolns too. But the gray is a thorn or something. I will go with Song. Sometimes those common ones will throw you for a loop.

Yes, this is definitely a song sparrow. Song sparrows do often have gray on the cheek, it's just not so obviously large as on a Lincoln's. A good thing to look for is the colour and thickness of the breast streaks (Lincoln's are dark and thin) and the overall colour (Lincoln's are lighter, warmer with buffy tones on the face, and overall more contrast).

I thought it might be, but it was lighter than most of the other sparrows around. Thank you.
