March 2022 Monthly Challenge

March is definitely the kick-off for Spring Migration in the Fraser Valley. While we usually get our first spring swallows in late February, more start to show up as the month of March progresses. Mountain Bluebirds and Say's Phoebe are eagerly awaited and do show up in March. Rufous Hummingbirds also return sometime in March. Good places to bird during this time, especially to see a bluebird, is the Hope Airport and Columbia Valley

Still seeing a Bewick's Wren coming to my suet feeder, along with two Northern Flickers. Pine Siskins and Varied Thrush also visit the Juncos and American Goldfinch on my balcony. Have not seen the downy or hairy for a while. Klaus

A non-birding trip to Costco yielded Brewer's Blackbird and American Kestrel.

I am thinking with this warmer weather the first Tree Swallows get reported very soon.

Had my first of season Ruby-crowned Kinglet singing away at Sardis Park. Also 9 Greater White-fronted Geese.

Banford Road had a huge Wigeon flock with at least 5 Eurasian Wigeon.
Northern Pintail also present there and a Cooper's Hawk.

I had my first swallows of the year with 2 violet-greens flying overhead at my place today.
