Fraser Valley Birders: For those that don't subscribe to Tweeters, the Washington rare bird alert; a post this aftenoon states the Whooper Swan seen previously near Conway is now around Slater Rd north of Bellingham. Perhaps as it migrates north it will drop into a local field. Better start checking those swan flocks. I stopped to scope a few around Chilliwack today, including the Cheam Wetlands, but they were all Trumpeters. Apparently the Whooper was in a group that contained a Trumpeter with a blue tag. Cheers. Hi Fraser Valley Birders: On impulse, today, I whipped down to Ferndale to see if the Whooper Swan was still there. It was. If anyone needs directions, and didn't read Wayne Weber's directions on bcbirds yesterday, they are as follows. Take I-5 south to exit 260. Drive West on Slater for a few k's to Ferndale; go north a k's to Ulrick. Turn left or west. The flock has been hanging around the field north of Ulrick. Today, at 10:30 a.m., the Whooper was the closest to the road and was easily seen with binoculars, or evern the naked eye; however if it chooses to fly around a bit, a scope would probably be necessary. From Hope, it only took 1.5 hours to get there, so it is pretty close. Let's hope it still shows up on a B.C. field. I did take some pictures, but now am trying to figure out to download them without doing the same to about 375 pictures that I still have on the memory card?>!! Cheers, Thor

Sounds like the swans are considering a northward push. Worth checking local flocks to see who stops by! Good head's up Thor, keep us posted.
Hope to see some pictures too!

Hi Fraser Valley Birders: I read a report on Tweeters today, that the Whooper Swan recently seen in the field north of Ulrick Rd, in Ferndale, Washington, was not seen yestereday; ( Monday ), despite an all day serach. It may reappear there, but it looks like it may have moved on. There is not that much turf between Ferndale, and the B.C. border, so keep an eye on those swan flocks!! Cheers, Thor

This guy will no doubt move north with the rest. Question is will it follow the coast or swing around the mountains and join our swans in Sumas Prairie or even go a few extra miles and get into Chilliwack.
If the swans have started to move, then this poor weather that's coming up may slow them down briefly or at least enough that they will hang out for a day or two where ever they happen to be now?
