I agree with pectoral.

We have ourselves a debate!
I think this is more likely a Sharp-tailed. The crown is very strong and rufous, and so is the eyeline (which extends behind the eye in this case). The white eye ring, the thin breast streaking, and the overall contrast seem consistent with a Sharp-tailed Juvenile to me.

I lean with Paul on this one for the reasons he states.

Oh dear. I should really keep silent about things I don't know.
Pro STSA * Rufous cap * Bright wings * White eye-ring
However, the breast doesn't look so good for juv Sharp-tailed in my opinion. I would expect a warmer wash and less streaking.
On balance I guess I'll be changing camps.

On that 2nd pectoral I see a shorter wing extension and no white eye ring
I think I'd lean Sharp-tailed.

On that 2nd pectoral I see a shorter wing extension and no white eye ring I think I'd lean Sharp-tailed. Ok, sure, the eye ring is definitely less defined in the second ML link. What about the first linked image? It is very similar in my opinion. I think the lack of warmth on the breast is very concerning, if the claim is that it's a *juvenile* Sharp-tailed. I'm happy to learn and be corrected though.

Jon, I see what you mean about the breast. It seems like it could go either way in this photo. Joel, did you manage any more shots?

Paul, I unfortunately did not get any other pics. I was there shortly before closing time, and was in a hurry to find my main target: a Black-necked stilt.

My thought was what Jon mentioned - seems to have a lack of the buffy tone beneath the breast streaking. I'm no sharp-tailed sandpiper expert though!
