We’re looking at a Red Phalarope out on Cultus Lake viewed from the Jade Bay boat launch. Cool little bird; too bad it’s so far out. A great bird for the Fraser Valley

I really appreciated the notification about this bird! I drove out to Cultus to go look for the bird. Due to some faulty directions, I ended up at Maple Bay first Spotted 2 Horned Grebe and 1 Common Loon while there for a minute. At the right bay, it didn't take long to spot the Phalarope. Super far out on the lake, yet still identifiable by scope, based on: > plain light-gray wings > chunky build (as opposed to dainty Red-necked) > fat eye-spot The photo's are way worse than the views were, but I felt like sharing them anyways This one is with a 300mm lens This was digiscoped with my cellphone
