Hello all, I hope this is the right place to post.
I’m looking at hiking the Needle Peak trail out towards Hope on Saturday September 23rd, weather permitting. Aiming to get there around 6:30 am. My first time doing this hike looking for birds. I’d rather go with someone.
Who would be keen to do it, weather permitting?

I may be interested.
3 things though:
1. Saturday is the 25th? 2. The weather is definitely something to consider. 3. The hike is quite steep at the beginning.

I would also be interested, either day. I don't like to hike on my own so I would welcome the company. John G

Huh. Case of fat fingers. Yes, Saturday the 25th!
I’m aware of steep trail, from reading reviews and photos. It’ll be a nice challenge!
As for weather, I figure as long as it’s not raining/snowing, we’re good. But maybe I’m not aware of local conditions enough to judge? Is there something I should know about?

But, it's higher elevation, Dave had snow there last week, and it's getting later into fall. So my concern would be snow. Probably fine as long as it's not precipitating What time were you thinking to be at the trailhead? I'm still not sure I'll make it, but I'd be more inclined to join if we started early.

I was looking at arriving at the parking area for 6:30'ish, time to get geared up and started around that time. Open to suggestions - I don't know this trail, so not sure if right on sunrise is enough light for that trail or not.

Greetings. There is a chance I could join Saturday. Stay tuned. Jon has my cel number if need confirmation soon. Very familiar with the trail and the early start could work. We could carpool in my vehicle from my place near Cheam wetlands in popkum, but first I need to rearrange a few things to make it work. Some snow possible but should be fine. Snow helps with tracks anyway.

Hey all! Glad to see the previous reports and makes me look forward to it even more!
Hope to have several of you there. I’m fairly new to birding and don’t know this trail. Any shared experience, I will soak up. 🤣
I’m not feeling up to carpooling, Covid and all. So I’ll make my own way there.
Cheers!

My wife, son, daughter, and myself will join a quest for ptarmigan Saturday along Needle Peak/Flatiron. Family much prefers a later start so we propose meeting at the parking lot at 7:30am instead. Mountain birds aren’t early risers anyway. . Thoughts?

You know the trail much better than I do! If a 7:30 start is good for the birds, it’s good for me! I’ll reclaim that half hour of sleep and see you then.

Well, I spoke too soon! I’m sorry. I had the morning free but just had some unexpected adjustments and will need to work tomorrow morning. I won’t be able to join you.
Call me if you are up on flatiron and if not having success with ptarmigans and maybe I can give some virtual spots to check where they sometime hide out when busy hiking season.
Have a great hike at anytime of morning you choose 😁.
My apologies again for the false alarm and quick retraction

No problem. Stuff happens! Any hints on ptarmigan and grouse would be awesome.
Anyone else coming?

I've only been up there twice (both on the last 3 years). Both times have found ptarmigan on the right (north?) Side of Flatiron. Basically if you're at the lake at the bottom looking up at Flatiron then stay as far right as you can and climb up for the top. We have found them along the edge of the cliff here both times I have hiked this.
Good luck!
