I went to Harrison this morning and walked around the Lagoon. This bird surfaced near me in the lagoon, it had a fish that had spines and commenced thrashing the fish until it removed the spines. I had a good watch through the scope, the bill was serrated or sawtooth bill and a hook on the top bill that goes over the bottom, as in a Merganser. But it does not look like the Common Mergansers that were on the main lake. The photos are heavily cropped and from my phone hand held on the scope. I would guess at a female Hooded Merganser. Klaus

Agree with Hooded Merganser. I think it's a young bird, which would explain the missing hood.
Seems that particular bird has been there for a few days as I saw it on Saturday
