On the drive back yesterday, along Chilliwack Central Rd, between Banford and Prest Rd, there was a bird in the distance that Dave and I could not ID. It was in the middle of a field, far away. I took some pictures and cropped them closer to help with id but still not sure. DSCF7507_1 by Klaus Molthagen, on Flickr DSCF7509_1 by Klaus Molthagen, on Flickr DSCF7515 by Klaus Molthagen, on Flickr I know that a Pectoral Sandpiper has been seen in the valley, but I wonder if this might be an Upland Sandpiper, or whatever. The longer neck of the Upland seems to fit this bird better. It was quite a distance from the road, and did not seem interested in the traffic from the freeway or Chilliwack Central. It stood stationary for a while as we looked at it and I took pictures, turned sideways to give a nice profile for a while, then turned away as if it had enough of me trying to id it. Still stumped and still learning. Klaus

Wow a fantastic find! I think we have only three or so records for the Fraser Valley for that species. Great job spotting it.

LOL Randy! If you are nearby when I see my next lifer, I will show you! My apologies, but it seems I was off a little in my recollection if where we saw it. It was on Chilliwack Central, but east of Annis Rd, south side, between the two farms, in the field. Sorry about that. Klaus

Good birds always show up when I leave FV. In the North for 6 weeks.
