This morning we did some birding in the Merritt area. The first stop was Midday Valley Rd. I have never been here but really loved the area. It was quiet and there are a few ATV trails that one can walk down. A lot of Vesper Sparrows and Mountain Bluebirds in the area. Also had a couple of Pygmy Nuthatches.
Chipping Sparrow. This individual did have its tail even though it looks like it is missing its tail.
After spending close to two hours on the Midday Valley Road, we drove Highway 5A first stopping at Beaver Ranch Flats. Was tough to spot waterfowl without a scope but there were around 100 Coots and it is always nice to see and hear Yellow-headed Blackbirds. Planet Mine Road had two Lewis' Woodpecker.
The final stop was Pennask Lake Road. Had one Swainson's Hawk and two Horned Larks.
65 species for the trip.
