Today after work I took a brief stop at the Heron Reserve. This stop proved to be worthwhile, as on the Tower Trail at the first boardwalk was a Least Flycatcher singing "chebek". A lifer for me and a species I thought I'd see at Cheam Lake, not here. I think that's also a new species for the Heron Reserve overall which is nice Also there was a Great Horned Owl hooting somewhere off in the forest, and a flock of crossbills flew over at the same spot where the flycatcher was. Fantastic find Jamie! If it'd have been me, I don't know that I'd have thought the sound was worth investigating...
Thank you for the timely report, and detailed directions! I managed to swing by before work this morning, and found the bird where you described. It was singing away, but the views were terrible -- never got it in my bins and only saw it when it changed perches -- but still a fantastic bird! For others who wish to look for the bird, take a left off the central trail further down (not by the tower, but still onto the tower trail), then it was by the first boardwalk.
Since it's already June, I wonder if the bird will stick around a while. It seems a bit late for a migrant? I also wonder how long it might've been there already...

Was still there yesterday at 4pm. It was moving between the 2nd and 3rd boardwalks this time. It's probably on territory

We came across it this afternoon after the egret. It was a bit far off and not singing a lot. We listened for a second one Jamie mentioned hearing on the 19th.

Went for an early morning walk and the Least Flycatcher was still there. The Great Horned Owl was as well in the area. Enjoyed seeing a family of Belted Kingfisher and an uncommon nice view of a Red-eyed Vireo down low.
Yesterday evening and this morning I looked for the Great Egret but didn’t find it. Maybe not surprising as they are a bit notorious for moving around.

This morning just southeast of the Heron Reserve along the path close to the Vedder River was a Least Flycatcher. Heard its familiar 'Chebek' calls. I would think the same one as it is fairly close to the original sighting.
