I saw 4 Male Common Mergansers with another Merganser that did not look like a Female Common Merganser. This was at the confluence of Silver Hope Creek and the Fraser River. Can anyone give me a more experienced opinion, based on my poor photo. Cell phone handheld on new spotting scope. flic.kr/p/2koLNCmflic.kr/p/2koRg1x

Hey Kenneth, nice work getting some photos. To me it looks good for a female Common Merganser. What was it that you thought was unusual?

I have not seen the wing bars showing before and it seemed smaller and darker than I've seen. Common Merganser would be the most likely though.
Thanks Randy

I agree it looks to be a Common.
