Fellow Fraser Valley Birders: For those who may not subscribe to other birding listerves, a Ferruginous Hawk has been reported since Friday p.m. at Separation Lake just off Beresford Road in Knutsford, which is just before Kamloops when driving North on highway 5A. Several groups have chased it, and have been successful. I, and another Fraser Valley birder had a try on Saturday afternoon/evening, but after searching for 2.5 hours we ran into darkness, and had to give up. Because it was seen again yesterday; ( Sunday), I decided to give it another go today. Typically, the bird has been seen in a large stand-alone Cottonwood tree, right by Separation Lake. Today, after waiting for three hours, the bird showed up in the area, at 10:15 a.m. Specifically, it landed on a fencepost, along a fenceline, running from the end of Separation Lake back towards Beresford Road. Had full, sun-on, level views-beautiful bird. As you know, this is an extremely rare bird for B.C. There have been annual anecdoctal reports from the Nicola Valley, but, unless I am mistaken, there has been only 1 breeding record from the Aspen Grove area quite a number of years ago. There are pictures of the bird under Chris Charlesworth's name on bcintbird. Cheers. Thor

Hello birders,
the Ferruginous Hawk was observed on Sunday at Seperation Lake near Kamloops. The bird was observed at 12:30 soaring for about 20 minutes before it disappeared. After getting a quick bite to eat,(us not him)we relocated the bird sitting on a fence pole at about 2:00. When we left, the bird had flown to the Highway and was perched on a telephone pole.
Thank, Brent Schmor Abbotsford
