I received a request for sightings of double-crested cormorants from Abbotsford east to track where they spend their winters. This species is designated a Species at Risk (SAR).
I have a lot of data for Chilliwack and Agassiz but wondering what's been seen further up the valley as well. Possibly Thor or Deb have seen them up around Hope?
I think we need dates, location and if possible, age. I can compile and pass on any sightings shared.
Thanks!

Gord: Yes, indeed, we have Double Crested Comorants in Hope. I'm terrible about keeping records on common birds, so I guess the best I can do is say I've seen them in Bristol Slough by the Interfor property, near the airport, both last fall, and this spring. Not very scientific, I'm afraid. Cheers. Thor

Hi Gord- They are also a common sight at the mouth of Silver Creek during the winter months. I'll start keeping notes and report back to you.

Thanks guys. I will pass on information of the areas you see them during the winter and that more details will be shared as they come available. Ill be sure to credit info appropriately.
She wasnt sure how common or even if they are seen past Maple Ridge so Im sure she'll be excited with good solid Hope sightings.

Just a reminder to keep an eye open now that seem to be coming up. I saw 6 yesterday on the Fraser River in Chilliwack. There is especially an interest in sightings east of Agassiz.
I had a juvenile on Sept 28 at Island 22 which I think is the most early record Ive had for them around here.

Thanks Gord; so does this mean that we can add a link on our web page to your Fraser Valley Birding?
