This evening the family and I watched the moon rise over the mountain. I ran for my camera and tried a few shots with different exposure and crop. One was HDR as well. Odd that shadow around the moon especially in the HDR one. 019_9850 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_9849 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_9848 by Gord G, on Flickr

Very cool photos! Did you use a tripod? What kind of settings did you use?

Definitely a tripod and used timer so there was no shake when I pressed the release. I was using the 200mm-500mm at about 480mm and shutter speed 1/60th or so and tried to find a balance in aperature not to lose detail in the moon but also not to make the mountains black. I did a HDR (high dynamic range) one as well to try and get the best of both worlds. This was the first one I shared but seemed to show quite a dark shadow around the moon.

When I woke in the morning my tripod was gone. We live on the second floor. Made a police report and found out my report was the 39,400th for this year. I have a spare setup but not as good as the old one.
