Okay, I'll be the first wimp to mention the weather. Is the Cheam hike on Saturday, the 21st, going rain or shine? Dry for now, in Hope, Thor

Thor, dry here too, and it was supposed to pour all day. Hmm. Makes me wonder if them calling for rain on Saturday will almost ensure we get sun... It will be a gameday decision, but it isnt looking good. Im game to go if the weather's not pouring. It's not much fun to get caught in a major wetting though either. There is talk about posponing it until next Saturday which might be nice. I will be there to meet who comes and see what those who came want to do regardless. A couple years ago we had not great weather and no one showed up. We went anyway and by the time we made the top, the weather broke completely and was a wonderful day. Lots of ptarmigan enjoying the clouds at the beginning as well. You just dont know. Would the 28th work for those interested in coming? I guess we could start a new attendance list for the potential 28th hike if the 21st does not work out or if only a few feel like going.

I, too, am wondering about the weather. I will be heading out from Langley and figure it will take me about an hour to get to Thompson Park. If it is a no-go, would it be possible to send me an e-mail or broadcast on this thread Saturday morning? The next Saturday would work for me, as well. I am game to go if anyone else is willing. What is the road like if there is a lot of rain?

Doug, the road should be ok unless we're getting rivers of rain. Safety while driving and on the trail will be carefully considered. If the 28th is good for most or all anyway, there is no point taking risks. We will keep close contact as the time comes. I dont want anyone to drive a long ways for no reason. At worst, Doug, and if you dont mind, I can call you as I cant get on the computer in the morning or risk an angry wife (it's in the bedroom!). Doug, you're on the list for Saturday the 28th too. (Ill start another list)

Im looking at weather that's not too bad this morning. Again, forecasted to be raining hard but isnt.
Here's the plan.
Those who want to come in the morning can and we can decide what we want to do. But for those, especially ones who are able to make it on the 28th and/or live a ways away, may want to take a rain cheque (pardon the pun) on the 21st.
One thing to be aware is that Dave and his truck's services will not be available for the 28th which will limit seating for those who need it. I will let everyone know if more seats become available.
Right now, I have three seats (cozy ones, with one taken): Doug Cooper

Rather than drive all the way down tomorrow and find it is too wet I would sooner go next Saturday. Len

Sounds good. Some of us locals will give it a shot tomorrow because a couple of them are from back East and will be going back soon and would miss next Saturday.
Dave is also considering a Monday trip if tomorrow does not work out and may have room for others who might be interested.
Len, I have you a seat for next Saturday.

Gord et al: I heard a Vancouver forecast this morning that says the current front is going to blow by tonight, leaving tomorrow relatively dry until the p.m. Maybe with the weather lag from Vancouver to Chilliwack, that will leave that area okay for a Saturday hike. I plan to show up tomorrow. However, if you have a seat for next Saturday, I would like to go sometime, especially if we end up canceling tomorrow. Thor

Thor, you have the final seat for Saturday 28th in my truck.
I like the forecast you mentioned! See you in the morning.
Will beat the bushes for more truck space especially if we cancel or people dont wish to come tomorrow but would like to for next Saturday.

I am planning to show up tomorrow. If we don't head up to Mt. Cheam, perhaps someone can suggest some good birding spots out in the valley for me to check out.

Ok, it's final now for me. I won't go tomorrow but will count on next Saturday for better weather. Good luck up there tomorrow and if you find that Rock Ptamigan stake it down. Len

No Problem, Doug. If we need to cancel the Cheam hike, we will have a brainstorm and come up with something interesting See you tomorrow, Dave

Good luck up there tomorrow and if you find that Rock Ptamigan stake it down. Len Thanks! And, Ill stick a tiny GPS transmitter on any we find, Len! See you next Saturday. Surely we'll have decent weather. Right now, it's a mixed bag here. A light shower just started but all afternoon it was mostly just cloudy and you could even see most if not all of Cheam at times. Looks somewhat hopeful and tomorrow's forecast is more promising than today's was!! Im not sure if that's bad or good... Oh yes, and if weather bombs, maybe we can do a little walk/drive at Island 22 instead as the buntings are usually easily seen from the safety of the car (safe from the rain and mosquitoes).
