After a circuit of Hope Airport where the highlight was meeting nickinthegarden, the lower part of Skagit Valley yielded many singing MacGillivrays Warblers, a pair of Harlequin Ducks on territory, and nesting American Dippers. I believe the Harlequins are new for the monthly list.

How is the road up the Skagit, Dave?

We did first 13kms and it was okay. Several areas where you carefully dodged potholes but nothing a car couldn’t handle. Dippers were where the turnoff to Silver Lake Campground is and the Harlequins were just above Silver Lake where a small waterfall joins the main river.

Good to meet you Dave, it is always good to put a face to a name. Your ebird list for the Hope Airport was quite impressive. I went for the Western kingbirds and while I did find a pair I was a little concerned that they have not built a nest this year in the usual place, perhaps it is too soon for them. It was not easy to photograph them as someone was using the airport to practice their take offs and landings and it kept startling them. They should keep those planes out of the airpark during birding season. Western Kingbird by Nick, on Flickr
