We counted 8 coyotes in Matsqui Prairie today. There may be 1 or 2 we missed. This is the first Coyte pack we have ever seen.

I have been visiting that area several times a week recently and I have never seen more than one. Last year I saw a Mama Black Bear and her cubs in that area and they were tailed by a Coyote.

I looked for them yesterday but no sign of them. I did mention to a couple off leash dog owners about the pack but they did not heed my warning. What can you do?

Hi Len This is a great photo of the coyotes. On several occasions I have witnessed coyotes lure off-leash dogs to the pack. It is usually fatal to the dog. Several years ago a neighbour turned her little dog, Snowball, out into the back yard. She was just about finished the construction of a fence around the yard which was to be finished the next day. She went inside to get the leash for the early morning walk and when she returned to the back yard, Snowball had disappeared. We neighbours looked all day for Snowball and in the evening one of the workers in the nearby golf course found Snowball's collar and dog tag covered in blood and white fur. I am sure those coyotes thought "That fence will be finished soon, if we don't get snowball this morning, we will lose our chance."
