Hi Some FlyCatchers have been visiting our back yard in the past few days. They sit on dead twigs and branches and swoop to capture flying insects. They provide quite a performance swooping around catching flying bugs. We managed to get some photos and we think they are Olive-sided FlyCatchers. Attached are four pictures. We understand that the population of the Olive-sided FlyCatchers are in decline. It is so nice to see them. We really enjoy this website and the assistance provided by the members. Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately those are not Olive-sided Flycatchers but Western Wood-Pewee. Very similar. The last photo looks like a Western Tanager.
I did see an Olive-sided in the park just over a week ago. It's quite possible to see one as they're migrating. Watch for a big headed, large beaked flycatcher with an obvious olive vest with white.

Hi Gord Thank you for the correct Identification of the Western Wood Peewees. We enjoyed watching them hunting in our trees. Our birds are transitioning. The last Rufus may have left yesterday but some Annas are visiting. The families of Blackheaded Grosbeaks are thinning out but some Evening Grosbeaks arrived a few days about. The Western Tanagers have been around all summer and so many other species. Birds are so amazing.
