Yesterday I went with John Vooys and Ed to see what was out and about. At Reifel we tried to find the Northern goshawk that has been hanging out there, but came up empty-handed. However, we still saw a lot of species. The Black-crowned Night-herons were in their usual roosting spot. Seeing a roosting saw-whet owl is always a highlight: Northern Saw-whet owl by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr The Tsawwassen ferry jetty also had some good birds, including a trio of Snow buntings. There was a strange-looking goldeneye with some Commons (the bird on the right-hand side): Goldeneyes by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr We suspect that it might be a Common X Barrow's hybrid. This Common loon looked like it's moulting into its breeding colours: Common loon by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Blackie Spit had the usual Ring-billed gulls, Eurasian wigeons, and other wintering visitors. Good birding!
