I recently started an internship at an environmental stewardship organization called A Rocha. Once every other week there is a hummingbird banding session, done in partnership with some professional banders. Last week I had the pleasure of taking part in the first session of the season. We caught and released 14 birds, mostly Rufous but also a a few Anna's. The purpose of the material wrapped around the birds is to keep them still during the process.
