Kathy, wish I had something at my feeders since I have been home---ooooops, noticed a couple of "sprouts" at the bottom of my tube feeder! While not moldy, ---denotes a certain amount of "lack of housekeeping!" Now cleaned up--will go for the hulled sunflowers during this transition period (tip from Jason)---Al

This afternoon the Sisken's arrived 'en masse' my back yard is full of them. I guess the first few were just the forerunners. Haven't seen the Goldfinch again but I have about 8 or 10 Purple Finch now and 6 or 8 House Finch.
Had to clean 'sprouts' out of the bottom of one of my tube feeders too...glad I did because it will be emptied to the bottom with all the Sisken activity.

A pair of Siskins at our feeder for the first time this year too. Isn't Spring a wonderful time!! A single Mountain Bluebird at Hope Airport...first one we've seen for a couple of days - thought they had passed on through...the Kingbird is proving elusive though..

Kathy, I can only assume that while I was away, there has been a more than "nominal" amount of rain--up till now there has'nt been a problem with the "sprouting" but with the onset of warmer weather overnight, as well as the rain--it has conspired to turn the tube feeders into right little greenhouses!. Hopefully if a drying trend begins, I won't have to take any further precautions (outside of normal) to keep the feed dry--now, if only the Hummers would show! ;D ;D

Hi Kathy- Like you experienced on March 30th, we had five "scout" pine siskins here for several days before a rather large flock of siskens arrived today, 4 days later. I've had to refill the feeders twice today. Also, has any one else noticed large numbers of juncos! I count 50 + every day and this year they seem to be able to land on everything- including peanut, suet, nyjer, and black-oil sunflower seed feeders. Note on the sharp-shinned hawk: he has moved on to my neighbour's field where today he was seen swooping down and taking a robin from the field.

Wow, the siskins are still in good numbers. Everywhere I go I see flocks and hear them overhead. So nice to see after the big siskin drought of 2006. I might venture to say there's more than in average years.
