Well, db, I can now sympathize with you. My parents saw a pileated woodpecker in our backyard at about 7:30 a.m. ;D, when I was already at work. Here are the pictures they took...Gord--just wondering-can you download videos on here too or is that not possible?? Not a big deal, just thought it might be kind of neat occasionally. Amazing to think how woodpeckers are made so they don't get huge headaches! ;D ;D Now if that does not convince my dad not to cut down that old willow tree, I don't know what will. According to my mom, he was so excited he couldn't get the words out when he saw it . It was there for at least 10 minutes (that's as long as they watched it). By the way, as a note of interest, he said it was first hanging upside down on a branch on our neighbour's holly tree and sort of pecking at the berries Never heard of that before--anybody else? Have a good one!! Jeff I'm leaving for Ecuador next week for about 2 months to job shadow a missionary--maybe I'll see some birds and occasionally send a couple pictures if I have time.

Hey Jeff! Ive never seen them after berries; a great observation. Wonder if anyone else has seen this? Sounds like he saved that willow tree too! As for videos, you can upload them to photobucket and then provide a link. I havnt tried it yet, but looks like the steps are the same. Will miss you while you're gone, but it will be worthwhile and not only for the great birds you're sure to see. Hope you do get a chance to post a quick report and perhaps some pictures! Wow, we're a small group but we (except me ) sure get around!

Dear Jeff's family members,
I offer my sincere thanks to you for discovering a Pileated Woodpecker as a yard bird when Jeff was not home. You see, after my wife discovered a Pileated in my backyard last year when I was not home, I have had to endure this humbling experience alone. Due to your sharp eyes, Jeff can give me experiencial support during my lapses of "non-pil-wood-yard-bird-depression-syndrome"
Thanks again,
Dave
